Rewind Earth is working on scaling deep mine carbon storage, leveraging a comprehensive and sophisticated digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (dMRV) platform created by BlueLayer.

As a carbon dioxide removal (CDR) company, Rewind specializes in projects that store sustainably sourced biomass into underground, oxygen-free mine chambers.

Centered around a flagship initiative at a deep underground mine in Georgia, Rewind’s approach delivers benefits beyond CDR, including mitigating acid mine drainage, reducing land subsidence risk, managing methane emissions, and converting overlooked mining sites into climate assets.

As this project grew with time, the company had to ensure that every kilogram of biomass injected through its science-first CDR approach was transparently accounted for, audited, and verified in line with industry standards while scaling up operations.

To address this challenge, Rewind relied on a granular dMRV platform developed by BlueLayer that was able to streamline its wide range of collected data types and formats.

The dMRV platform automatically validates and timestamps every data entry, creating a fully traceable stream of information, with standardized workflows across diverse biomass types and multiple locations.

Once the project’s operational data is captured, BlueLayer transforms it into methodology-aligned carbon removal metrics, where Rewind’s inputs, such as biomass mass, moisture, and composition, are processed through automated quantification pipelines, mirroring the realities of the engineering process.

BlueLayer’s dMRV platform performs full transparency mass balance and carbon content calculations, ensuring numbers are traceable and defensible for audits and verification, reducing the risk of human error.

This approach allows real-time storage performance and permanence insights and accelerates verification cycles, all while maintaining confidence in the scientific rigor of results. It also organizes data into structured, verification-ready reports, providing user-friendly dashboards that connect and relate operational data to credit inventory and delivery.

With the help of BlueLayer’s dMRV, Rewind is now well positioned to further scale its deep mine storage CDR operations, collecting more data backed by a structured and durable data pipeline.

Moving forward, the two companies intend to continue collaborating on expanding monitoring, quantification, and reporting capabilities, as Rewind grows its operations across new regions, biomass types, and storage environments.
