In a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), MAN Energy Solutions and Shell have agreed to collaborate in a strategic partnership that will focus on developing decarbonization solutions in the sphere of energy as a means to cut emissions and reach net-zero targets for the two companies and their network of clients.
The two companies will leverage their cumulative expertise and technology to create viable climate-forward solutions specialized in the domain of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), clean energy production, and eco-friendly fuels.
One of the main aims of the strategic partnership will be optimizing existing CCUS plants in a way that will reduce the expenses of carbon dioxide sequestering operations. This will be achieved through MAN’s CO2 compressing technology, which will be modularized and standardized to fit case-specific needs. The two partners expect this development to lead to accelerated installation and reduced costs for CCUS solutions.

The second pillar in the collaboration agenda focuses on the marine sector, where the two energy leaders hope to bring forward trustworthy sustainable fuel options and ease the carbon footprint of companies operating in the maritime industry. Along with efficient energy sources, they plan to unroll integrated digital services and pollution-cutting fixes related to methane slip reduction.
The partnership will contribute significantly to the carbon reduction efforts in the two companies’ production plants and supply chain, leading to a portfolio of greener services and solutions being offered to their end clients.
This MoU comes as a result of the two companies looking to build strong relationships within the business community with the goal of creating effective pathways towards net zero requirements.
Dr. Uwe Lauber, CEO of MAN Energy Solutions, commented in regards to the cooperation plans: “We are very excited to embark on this partnership with Shell. Together, we will leverage our collective strengths and expertise to accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable energy solutions.”
