Switzerland-based CO2 removal financier Altitude and Voluntary Carbon Market Company (VCM) have entered into a strategic partnership focused on scaling high-quality carbon dioxide removal (CDR) in countries from the Global South.

Through this partnership, the two companies will work on advancing verified CO2 removal initiatives located predominantly in Global South regions, boosting their operations and supporting the delivery of high-quality CDR towards global net-zero goals.

The selected CDR initiatives are verified under leading methodologies and are monitored under the most rigorous standards and requirements, producing reliable and transparent carbon removal results.

In a statement, Erik Ringvold, Chief Business Development Officer at VCM, shared that this partnership reflects the company’s commitment to scaling high-quality CDR. Through this move, Saudi Arabia-based VCM also contributes towards the Kingdom’s ambition of establishing itself as a global carbon market hub.

Altitude managing partner Daniel Benjamin Schulz added, “We are proud to partner with VCM to deliver large-scale, verifiable carbon removals. This agreement underscores what’s possible in the next phase of CDR—supporting meeting global net-zero goals.”

This partnership aligns with Altitude’s mission of enabling and catalyzing multi-million tonnes of carbon removal.

In September 2025, the company announced a major increase to its carbon dioxide financing facility called Ascent 1, ramping up its volume to 250,000 t of CDR instead of the initial 50,000 t procurement commitment announced at its launch at the beginning of this year.

Altitude’s recent activity also includes securing a new batch of CORCs from biochar carbon dioxide removal facilities in West Africa, adding a new volume of 120,000t that adds to an earlier commitment of 25,000t of CDR in this part of the world.

The carbon removal certificates, or CORCs, will be issued by the Puro registry, and each CORC will represent a digitally tradable carbon credit that marks one tonne of atmospheric CDR.

Two months ago, Altitude also announced a deal for more than 50,000 tons of CORCs from Southeast Asian biochar facilities run by Greenglow.
