Last week, carbon dioxide removal (CDR) financier Altitude announced a major ramp up of its Ascent 1 financing facility, increasing the coverage from 50,000t to 250,000t of CDR.
With this bold move, Altitude solidifies its long-term support for high-quality, scalable carbon removal solutions, turning into one of the largest CDR financiers currently active on the market.
The Ascent 1 CDR financing facility funnels dedicated means into a curated portfolio of both engineered and nature-based carbon removal technologies.
Leveraging Altitude’s proprietary structured purchasing strategy and long-term procurement agreements, this facility provides the financial security needed for advancing CDR projects from the early development stages into a full-blown industrial deployment at impactful levels.
By increasing the Ascent 1 CDR financial backing fivefold, Altitude provides price certainty, liquidity, and long-term stability for suppliers, empowering them to deliver next-gen carbon removal solutions.
Going forward, the Ascent 1 financing facility will continue to prioritize supporting biomass-based CDR technologies, collaborating with leading CDR players like Puro.earth, BioFlux, the Carbon Drawdown Initiative, and other global financiers.
Altitude operates with a network of trusted partners on both the CDR supplier and buyer side of the process. On the supply end, besides Puro and BioFlux, it also cooperates with CrystalTrade, while on the buyer end, it partners with the CEEZER platform and ClimeFi.
Daniel Benjamin Schulz, CEO at Altitude, explained that the Ascent 1 expansion to 250,000t marks another step for the carbon removal industry.

He commented, “By working with our partners to multiply the initial facility size, we are sending a clear signal of demand and support to CDR suppliers—giving them the confidence to invest, scale, and deliver at the levels the climate challenge requires.”
On behalf of partnering organization ClimeFi, CEO Sebastien Dewarrat shared that the expansion of Ascent 1 sends exactly the right signal at the right time.
According to him, “This commitment to large-scale procurement strengthens financial stability for CDR suppliers and accelerates the industry toward true climate impact.”
