Carbon removal financier Altitude announced that it has secured an additional 120,000 t of CORCs through biochar facilities based in West Africa, with verification via the Puro registry.

This move builds on an earlier commitment made by Altitude in April 2025, when they ventured to procure over 25,000 tons of CO2 removal certificates (CORCs) from biochar carbon dioxide removal (CDR) facilities in West Africa.

For the latest CORCs, Altitude is collaborating with biochar facilities that are following strict sustainability and verification standards to convert agricultural waste and forest residues into biochar, utilizing an advanced pyrolysis technology.

The CORCs will be issued by the Puro registry, where every CORC will represent a digitally tradable carbon credit that marks one tonne of CO2 removed from the atmosphere.

In a broader perspective, this move aligns with Altitude’s mission of enabling and catalyzing multi-million tonnes of CO2 removal, fortifying its position as a leading CDR financier.

To that end and in alignment with this vision, in September 2025 Altitude also invested in 50,000 t of biochar CORCs from Southeast Asian facilities run by Greenglow.

The newly announced commitment is expected to contribute towards the accelerated global deployment of high-quality CDR-producing infrastructure.

In a statement, Daniel Benjamin Schulz, CEO of Altitude, shared that this expanded financing in West Africa is another step in the company’s ambition to accelerate durable carbon removal at scale.

He commented, “By financing an additional 120,000 t of CORCs from high-quality biochar facilities in West Africa, we deepen our engagement in the region and strengthen the growth of CDR.”

On behalf of Puro.earth, Head of Offtakes & Investment Solutions Julien Jacob added:

“Altitude’s continued long-term offtake with Puro CORC projects is precisely the kind of commitment the carbon removal market needs to catalyze investment and scale. Their additional 120,000 t purchase sends a strong signal about confidence in Puro and high-integrity CDR solutions.”

The news of this CDR commitment in West Africa comes about a month after Altitude increased the support to be provided through its Ascent 1 financing facility, raising the coverage from 50,000 t to 250,000 t of CDR.
