The Africa Carbon Removal Accelerator Revealed Its First Cohort Of Finalists - Carbon Herald

Remove has announced the inaugural cohort of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) startups selected as finalists for the Africa Carbon Removal Accelerator (ACRA) program.

The 12 startups that form part of the ACRA Cohort 1 are Safi Organics Ltd.,VERMIFARM LTD: Bugesera Worm Farm and Vermicomposting Production Initiative, Conservation Capital SA, BIOSORRA, Flux, Tivano, Tera, Bio-Logical, Releaf Earth (YC W19), Stack Carbon, RecyCoal, and Kokari Coconuts & Company.

Based in sub-Saharan Africa, these companies are focused on tackling climate challenges through carbon removal technologies designed to match the region-specific needs.

As finalists, they will go through a 6-month accelerator program, which will help them advance on their development journey. This will entail 1-on-1 coaching and navigation, along with networking events with industry experts, CDR buyers, investors, and other stakeholders relevant in this field.

The remove team broke the exciting news at the Carbon Removal Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. As they explained, the program received an overwhelming amount of applications from Africa-based CDR startups, attesting to the strong CDR innovation interest in this region.

A competitive process then filtered the 12 finalists under the supervision of a jury panel made up of jury members Caitlin Wale, Bilha Ndirangu, Karen Strassel, Oliver Akeret, and Marian Krueger.

On its mission of empowering the development of impactful climate solutions, remove has set up three accelerator programs targeting startups in Europe, India, and Africa.
