Altitude has signed an agreement with Bolivian company Empacar S.A. for a purchase of over 305,000 tonnes of biochar carbon dioxide removal (CDR).

Under the agreement, Altitude is buying CO2 Removal Certificates (CORCs) that will be generated via Empacar’s Bolivia-based biochar production facilities.

The credits will be issued in alignment with Puro.earth or equivalent methodologies, ensuring high-integrity verification and traceability.

This announcement comes shortly after the news of Empacar’s partnership with Puro.earth, Cula, and Bioflux on biochar production in Bolivia.

As part of this collaboration, Empacar shared plans to develop a biochar production facility in the Ascención de Guarayos region, projected to be able to capture approximately 70,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, with the first issuance of carbon removal credits expected in 2027.

Known as one of the leading industrial companies in Bolivia, Empacar leverages years of circular materials management experience on its new venture into high-integrity biochar carbon removal projects.

At the 2026 Bolivia Carbon Forum, the company announced the launch of its new business unit called Carbon X, focused on climate innovation and supporting Empacar’s transition into the global voluntary carbon market.

Currently, the company has multiple biochar production sites under development in Bolivia, which will serve to convert forestry and agricultural residues into CO2-storing biochar while generating durable CDR credits.

Commenting on the deal with Altitude, Empacar CEO Carlos Limpias and his team highlighted that this partnership accelerates the deployment of high-quality, large-scale CDR capacity, bringing long-term climate benefits and creating local economic value.

For carbon removal financier Altitude, this agreement is part of a strategy for building a large-scale portfolio of CDR credits from South America, in addition to its interest and activities in otner regions, such as South East Asia and West Africa.

On behalf of Altitude, CEO Daniel Benjamin Schulz shared that by sourcing CORCs from high-quality biochar projects in Bolivia, the company contributes to critical waste management and growth in these highly important regions.
