Worley has been appointed to deliver detailed engineering services for a major CO2 sequestration development in Qatar, advancing one of the region’s largest planned carbon capture and storage (CCS) initiatives.
The contract, awarded by Samsung C&T Corporation, relates to the QatarEnergy LNG Carbon Dioxide Sequestration Project. The facility is designed to enable the permanent storage of approximately 4.3 million metric tons of CO2 per year, supporting Qatar’s broader emissions reduction strategy linked to its liquefied natural gas operations.
Worley will execute the detailed engineering phase from its Doha office, drawing additional support from its Global Integrated Delivery centre in India as well as specialist teams in Australia. The award builds on Worley’s previous involvement in the project, having completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) phase.
Scaling Carbon Management in LNG
The development is positioned as a key component of Qatar’s efforts to manage emissions associated with its expanding LNG production capacity. By integrating large-scale CO2 sequestration, the project aims to reduce the carbon intensity of gas exports while maintaining output growth.
For Worley, the contract reinforces its role in delivering engineering solutions across the carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) value chain.

The company said the award reflects continued demand for technical expertise as energy producers invest in decarbonization infrastructure.
Once operational, the sequestration project is expected to contribute materially to emissions reductions in Qatar’s energy sector and strengthen the country’s positioning in lower-carbon LNG markets.
The award also underscores the growing role of engineering contractors in translating CCS ambitions into build-ready infrastructure, particularly in hydrocarbon-producing regions seeking to align energy production with climate commitments.
