Wood To Operate MTR Carbon Capture Plant In Wyoming - Carbon Herald

A pivotal role in the operation of a groundbreaking carbon capture facility in Wyoming has been awarded to Wood.

The consulting and engineering firm will provide operational and maintenance expertise for MTR Carbon Capture‘s plant in Gillette, recognized as the world’s largest facility employing membrane-based carbon capture technology.

Situated at the Wyoming Integrated Test Center (ITC), a facility overseen by the University of Wyoming, this plant forms a key component of the US Department of Energy‘s (DOE) extensive pilot program for carbon capture.

This initiative seeks to accelerate the development of vital technologies that improve both the economic viability and environmental efficacy of point-source carbon capture.

The plant effectively captures up to 150 tons of carbon dioxide daily, achieving a 90% capture rate from Basin Electric‘s Dry Fork Station, a coal-fired power plant.

Through an 18-month agreement, Wood will deliver comprehensive asset management services.

This encompasses operational activities, preventative maintenance, data collection, and inventory management, all designed to facilitate CO2 sequestration while ensuring the plant operates safely and at peak efficiency.

In October 2024, Wood, in collaboration with industry partners, introduced industry standards for CO2 specifications in carbon capture projects.

These guidelines, focused on operational efficiency, environmental considerations, and safety, will be implemented at the pilot plant to optimize performance, enhance sustainability, and establish a solid foundation for regulatory compliance in future projects.
