Wise, the London‑based fintech company known for cross‑border payments, has committed an additional $1.3 million (£1 million) to bolster its partnership with carbon removal specialist Opna.
The move increases Wise’s total investment through Opna to $2 million, underscoring its growing emphasis on climate resilience in regions most vulnerable to environmental disruption.
Originally launched in March 2025 with a $672,000 budget, the collaboration now aims to scale up high–integrity carbon removal in Latin America and the Asia‑Pacific in fiscal year 2026.
The investments will support nature‑based and hybrid carbon removal projects that generate both environmental and social co‑benefits.

Wise ties this expanded funding to its business expansion, saying the company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments are designed to grow in line with its commercial success.
“This additional investment represents our evolution beyond traditional carbon accounting – we’re creating a model where our climate action scales with our business growth,” Caroline Corbett‑Thompson at Wise said.
According to Shilpika Gautam, Opna’s CEO, “Wise’s commitment to high-impact carbon removal represents exactly the kind of forward-thinking climate leadership we need from global businesses.”
As Wise continues to expand its footprint in its key growth markets, the strengthened collaboration with Opna forms a central pillar of its ESG strategy in FY26, reinforcing ambitions for measurable and lasting climate impact.
