Wabash Valley Resources Partners With Baker Hughes For Safe Carbon Well Drills - Carbon Herald

Wabash Valley Resources (WVR) has announced a long-term partnership with energy technology company Baker Hughes to ensure safe carbon well drills for its low-carbon ammonia fertilizer project in Indiana, radio broadcaster WIBQ reported Tuesday.

This collaboration was highlighted by Greg Zoeller, WVR’s Vice President of External Affairs, following a Vigo County Commissioners meeting.

Houston-based Baker Hughes will provide advanced technology services and ensure monitoring and safety for WVR’s ammonia production.

Vigo County Commissioner Chris Switzer expressed confidence in the partnership, noting that Baker Hughes’ expertise in safe well drills and process involvement would reassure the community.

WVR’s project aims to repurpose a gasification plant to become Indiana’s first ammonia fertilizer facility using cutting-edge technology.

Judit Prieto, Senior Vice President for Enterprise Customer Solutions at Baker Hughes, emphasized the company’s commitment to new energy ventures and high safety standards.

Zoeller reiterated that while WVR is a smaller entity, Baker Hughes’ involvement brings unparalleled technical expertise and safety assurances.

The community has raised concerns about the project, and County Commissioners have received various comments.

Switzer acknowledged that regulatory compliance falls under state and federal jurisdiction, limiting local authority.

Nonetheless, he assured that community voices are being heard and WVR is committed to educating the public.

A Community Benefits package was also discussed, targeting the “Justice 40” initiative, which aims to direct 40% of federal climate and clean energy benefits to disadvantaged communities.

WVR will partner with the Wabash Valley Community Foundation to manage investments and grant distributions.

The project is slated to begin some work in 2025, with full operation expected by 2027.

WVR plans to make community feedback available online for transparency.
