Verra Launches Consultation On Changes To The Verified Carbon Standard Program - Carbon Herald

Verra just announced the launch of a public consultation on proposed changes to the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program.

The proposed changes would help bring the VCS program in alignment with certain integrity initiatives in the voluntary carbon market (VCM), thus making it more eligible for the subsequent phase of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation.

Some of the updates that Verra is seeking to obtain feedback on include the safeguard rules, the AFOLU Non-Permanence Risk Tool (NPRT), the rules about including increasing emissions from project construction in VCS methodologies, and the process of changing standardized methods.

The proposed changes can be seen here, and Verra will hold a webinar on July 17, 2023, to discuss the consultation.

Comments can be submitted electronically by July 31, 2023, via an online form provided on Verra’s website.
