Verde Resources and Ergon Asphalt & Emulsions, two leading names in sustainable road construction solutions, have teamed up to commercialize low-carbon innovations in this industry.

Under a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the two companies have agreed to jointly work on advancing novel asphalt products on the market. Verde Resources entered the deal through its wholly owned subsidiary, Verde Renewables.

This MOU builds on an existing alliance between Verde and Ergon communicated in February 2025, which summarized their collaboration on creating a specialized emulsion for usage in the production process of a groundbreaking biochar-asphalt material.

Verde’s proprietary emulsifying agent allowed for a low-temperature emulsion production that generated at least 20% less emissions than traditional binders. This tweak, in turn, enabled the mixing in of biochar in the asphalt product, creating a high-performance biochar-asphalt surface road material that significantly boosts construction durability while also absorbing CO2 emissions.

To validate the feasibility of this product, the two companies installed the biochar-asphalt material at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT), a deployment that granted a proof-of-concept, enabling Verde to issue the world’s first carbon removal credits from asphalt production and installation in April 2025.

Through the newly announced MOU, Verde and Ergon are extending their joint work to bring this technology to commercialization.

Currently, the two companies are finalizing the terms of an exclusive agreement that will bring this solution to the US market. Additionally, Verde is working on validating its technology at Paragon—Ergon’s cutting-edge testing lab for asphalt and construction materials.

“When you think of the best and most respected name in asphalt, you think of Ergon,” said Eric Bava, Chief Operating Officer of Verde Resources.

He added, “This partnership is about more than innovation. It’s about equipping Ergon, along with its partners, contractors, customers, and broader ecosystem, with practical tools to reduce scope emissions and further solidify their leadership in sustainable infrastructure.”
