VeCO2 From Blended Products: The World’s First Vegan-Certified Carbon Dioxide - Carbon Herald

UK-based speciality chemicals and gases company Blended Products has introduced VeCO2, the first-ever carbon dioxide product to receive vegan certification from the Vegetarian Society.

This innovation, derived from anaerobic digestion (AD), offers a sustainable, plant-based alternative to traditional CO2 sources.

VeCO2 is produced in partnership with a UK-based AD plant, using plant-based materials instead of fossil fuels.

This development represents a major advancement in carbon capture and sustainability, providing businesses with an ethical CO2 option that aligns with environmental goals, according to a statement by Blended Products last week.

Caroline Hunter, Head of Commercial at Blended Products, highlighted the significance of this breakthrough: “VeCO2 enables businesses to operate more sustainably by providing an ethical, plant-based CO2 alternative that supports both environmental and operational goals.”

“By choosing VeCO2, businesses can reduce reliance on fossil fuel-derived CO2 and contribute to a greener future,” she added.

The certification from the Vegetarian Society ensures that VeCO2 is entirely free from animal-derived inputs, making it an ideal solution for industries and consumers committed to ethical and cruelty-free practices.

This recognition reassures businesses seeking to reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining strict vegan and environmental standards.

As a sustainable CO2 solution, VeCO2 has applications across various sectors, particularly in food and beverage processing.

It also supports companies working to reduce Scope 3 emissions by offering a certified green alternative to conventional CO2 sources.

Blended Products has worked closely with experts in biogas and carbon capture to develop VeCO2, setting a new standard for eco-conscious innovation.

By pioneering this plant-based CO2 solution, the company is helping industries transition towards more responsible and sustainable operations.
