Specialist carbon insurer and Lloyd’s of London coverholder Kita has secured a strategic investment from Tokio Marine Group, paving the way for an expanded collaboration across the insurance giant’s global operations.
Building on an existing partnership with Tokio Marine Kiln, which focused on developing political risk insurance for carbon transactions, Kita will now broaden its work with other group companies, with a major focus on Japan.
In particular, Kita is collaborating with Tokio Marine & Nichido Fire Insurance (TMNF) to create insurance products that protect carbon credit buyers against delivery failures and non-performance risks.
The partnership will also explore providing satellite-based carbon project risk assessments to TMNF’s corporate client base, strengthening due diligence and buyer confidence across global carbon markets.
Developing A Full-Lifecycle Risk Platform For Carbon Projects
TMNF plans to integrate Kita’s remote-sensing risk assessment tools with the carbon project development services offered through Nippon Koei, Tokio Marine Group’s engineering consulting arm.
Nippon Koei provides hands-on technical services including field surveys, project design, due diligence, and implementation support.
By combining physical engineering consulting with digital risk analytics and insurance coverage, the companies aim to offer a unified, one-stop solution across the entire carbon project lifecycle.
The integrated framework will cover everything from rapid early-stage screening and detailed investment assessment to long-term carbon credit issuance and delivery support.
