Social media platform TikTok has announced a partnership with Scope3, a carbon measurement specialist, to help advertisers better understand and reduce the carbon emissions generated by their campaigns on the platform.
This move is part of TikTok’s broader sustainability goals and aims to improve transparency and accountability in digital advertising, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.
Through this collaboration, advertisers can measure the carbon footprint of their TikTok campaigns using Scope3’s open-source emissions model.
This model analyzes emissions across ad selection, media delivery, and creative assets, providing data in grams of carbon dioxide equivalent per thousand impressions (gCO2epm).

By using both TikTok’s first-party data and industry benchmarks, Scope3 offers accurate and third-party verified emission insights.
The partnership supports brands in tracking their Scope 3 (indirect) emissions—those generated from ad campaigns hosted on TikTok—while also aligning with TikTok’s efforts to decarbonize its Scope 1 and 2 (direct and energy-related) operations.
It allows clients to make informed, data-driven decisions to optimize campaigns with lower environmental impact.
TikTok’s approach centers on three principles: transparency in ad emissions, reliable measurement, and actionable strategies for carbon reduction.
As part of this initiative, TikTok aims to empower brands to align their advertising strategies with sustainability targets.
This step aligns with TikTok’s broader sustainability journey. In 2023, parent company ByteDance committed to operational carbon neutrality by 2030, pledging a 90% emissions reduction and the use of high-quality offsets like Direct Air Capture (DAC) and reforestation.
TikTok also joined Ad Net Zero and committed to sourcing 100% renewable electricity by 2030. Its new data center in Norway already runs entirely on renewable energy.
