The International Research Centre on Artificial Intelligence (IRCAI), a UNESCO-backed organization, and Amazon.com, Inc. subsidiary Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) have launched the 2025 edition of the Compute for Climate Fellowship.
Running for the third year in a row, this initiative intends to provide support for startups developing innovative climate change solutions with the help of cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI).
Besides financial help, the companies selected as winners will also receive mentorship from AWS and IRCAI experts, along with access to cloud technologies by AWS to construct their proof-of-concept projects at no cost.
To that end, AWS has earmarked up to $4 million in cloud credits to help the selected startups advance their projects.
Looking to back promising innovations, the 2025 fellowship will focus on startups centered around clean energy, sustainable transportation, agriculture, carbon removal, and other climate-relevant areas.
This year, the initiative has been expanded to include a new category dedicated to solutions developed by indigenous communities, aiming to provide funding and technical resources to indigenous innovators.
Davor Orlic, IRCAI COO, stated, “It wasn’t simple, but we managed to supercharge the startups with both resources and knowledge, and now we are taking it even further.”
“By expanding the Compute for Climate Fellowship, we are not only increasing the number of selected startups but also broadening the scope of climate solutions they can tackle and the applicability of AI in the climate space.”

The program opened on March 4, 2025, and will be accepting applications until April 6, 2025.
As the organizers clarify, priority will be given to impactful environmental projects that can be completed within two to three months.
For the startups that are not selected, the Compute for Climate Fellowship will still provide up to $5,000 in AWS credits, along with access to guidance workshops.
Additionally, these startups will receive invitations to become part of the IRCAI Industrial Club and access a network of organizations developing AI-powered climate solutions.
