The Climate Solutions Prize, a Quebec-based initiative, announced that its upcoming 2025 edition will bring the heftiest awards so far, looking to channel more than $1 million (CA$1.5 million) into investments in climate tech startups and innovative research in the field.
For the first time ever, the contest is also open to participants outside the province of Quebec, offering new prize categories that will accept applications from all over Canada.
With the Bank of Montreal as one of its key sponsors, the initiative is also supported by its partners Power Sustainable, Cycle Momentum, and 2 Degrés, recently welcoming AtkinsRéalis as a new contributor to its cause.
The Climate Solutions Prize has also garnered backing from Deep Sky, a vital carbon removal player headquartered in the Quebec province. As part of this synergy, Deep Sky is sponsoring a new award category called the Direct Air Capture Pilot Prize.
Additionally, Deep Sky co-founder Frederic Lalonde has been named a Climate Solutions honoree due to his vital field contributions, a recognition he is set to receive at the Climate Solutions Gala, scheduled for June 19, 2025.
Looking to catalyze the development of innovative climate solutions, the award is intended for Canada-based startups and researchers focused on creating practical answers to climate issues that can be delivered in a time-efficient manner.
Specifically, the 2025 Climate Solutions Prize is looking for projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, provide technology that improves energy efficiency, offers pathways to renewable energy or mechanisms for energy storage, and initiatives that are developing systems for natural or artificial carbon capture.
