Terradot Launches With A $60M Investment, Making Record ERW Sales - Carbon Herald

This week, enhanced rock weathering (ERW) company Terradot successfully launched operations, powered by $58.2 million in funding.

With a $4.2 million Seed funding and a recently acquired $54 million Series A funding, the company is setting off on a mission to remove climate-relevant amounts of atmospheric CO2 via ERW. 

Terradot is backed by various industry front-runners, including John Doerr, Sheryl Sandberg & Tom Bernthal, George Roberts, Microsoft’s Climate Innovation Fund, Google, Cisco, Floodgate, Kleiner Perkins, Acre Venture Partners, Gigascale Capital, Valor Capital, Ponderosa Ventures, and others.

The company has already signed agreements to remove the eye-catching amount of nearly 300,000 tonnes of CO2, marking the largest ERW volume to date. 

These agreements include a 90,000 tonne purchase by Frontier buyers totaling $27 million, scheduled to be delivered between 2025 and 2029. 

Terradot also inked a separate agreement with Frontier member Google, which includes removing 200,000 tonnes of CO2 in 2029 and beyond, representing the tech company’s most substantial single CDR purchase so far and its largest single investment in ERW. 

The deal with Frontier, set to be delivered towards the end of this decade, will lower the carbon removal cost per ton, enabling Google to benefit from lower prices from 2029 onwards.

With a vision of turning enhanced rock weathering into a global CO2 removal solution within the next decade, Terradot is also working on developing a suite of tools and a digital platform that will enable optimized carbon intake via ERW, along with high-precision monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of the CO2 removal progress.

Terradot is currently developing pilot projects in Brazil, leveraging a collaboration with the country’s leading agricultural research institution, EMBRAPA, to advance a novel model for scalable ERW. 

Through its Brazil-based ERW activities, the company has managed to disperse more than 48,000 tons of rock over 1,800 hectares of agricultural land in just over a year of operations.
