Renowned large-scale green project developer Technip Energies has been awarded the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract for the H2Teesside project led by BP.
Set to be located in the North East of the United Kingdom, the ambitious facility is projected to become one of the country’s largest low-carbon hydrogen production centers that fully integrates carbon capture technology on site.
The H2Teesside plant is part of the East Coast Cluster initiative in the UK, which represents a set of hubs and carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure focused on addressing the issue of industrial carbon emissions in the region and helping meet the national net-zero targets.
The cluster of hubs covers the area of The Humber and Teesside, traditionally considered the industrial heartland of the United Kingdom. Project H2Teesside is one of 3 projects selected to be the first ones to connect to this organized decarbonization grid in 2027.

As part of this bigger network, the H2Teesside hydrogen production and hydrogen distribution pipeline will connect to other decarbonization hubs in the region, while the carbon dioxide captured at its facility will be transported to the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) CO2 gathering system.
On behalf of Technip Energies, Mario Tommaselli, SVP Gas and Low Carbon Energies, shared that being selected for this project by BP highlights their experience as a large-scale technology integrator.
“By leveraging our extensive expertise in hydrogen and carbon capture technologies, we are well-positioned to deliver innovative at-scale solutions that align with the UK’s ambitious decarbonization targets.”

The final investment decision on project H2Teesside is expected to be made in 2025. At that point, given the successful completion of current operations and being selected for another contract, Technip Energies would work on the next phase of project development and deliver Engineering Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) services for this project.
