Thailand ’s inaugural carbon capture and storage project has taken a major step forward with the award of a detailed engineering contract to Technip Energies.

The company will deliver advanced design work for the Arthit CCS development in the Gulf of Thailand, which is being led by PTTEP and executed by Thoresen Jutal Offshore Engineering Heavy Industries.

The Arthit project is intended to function as a national pilot, building technical expertise and establishing a foundation for wider deployment of CCS across Thailand’s energy and industrial sectors.

It aligns with the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution Action Plan for 2021-2030, which identifies carbon capture as a key mitigation tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The development will largely rely on existing infrastructure at the Arthit gas field, supplemented by new facilities as required, allowing emissions reductions without the need for an entirely new offshore complex.

From Early Studies to Full Engineering

Technip Energies will be responsible for the detailed engineering of new CO2 processing units and injection systems, alongside modifications to the existing Arthit Central Processing Platform.

The award follows the company’s earlier work on the project, having completed both pre-FEED and FEED studies between 2022 and 2023.

Once operational, the CCS facilities are expected to ramp up gradually to a storage capacity of approximately one million tons of CO2 per year.

According to Technip Energies, the contract reflects its long-standing collaboration with PTTEP and its growing role in low-carbon energy infrastructure across Asia.

The project has been positioned by stakeholders as a landmark in Thailand’s decarbonization pathway, demonstrating how CCS can be integrated into offshore assets to curb emissions while leveraging existing investments.

The contract was booked in the third quarter of 2025 within Technip Energies’ Technology, Products & Services business segment.
