Carbon data provider Sylvera and software, data and media major Bloomberg have struck a collaboration that will embed Sylvera’s carbon project ratings directly into the Bloomberg Terminal, a move framed as a sign of carbon markets entering a more institutional phase.

Under the agreement, Sylvera’s independent quality ratings will appear within the terminal’s carbon market solutions, giving institutional investors and corporate buyers access to project-level quality assessments alongside existing pricing and market data.

The companies said the integration applies to carbon credits the kind of analytical rigor long used for traditional asset classes, and is intended to support due diligence as scrutiny of corporate climate claims intensifies.

For financial institutions, the data is expected to support participation in carbon markets ranging from dedicated carbon funds to lending decisions tied to climate commitments.

In turn, corporate buyers should see reduced due diligence burdens when sourcing credits, while project developers with strong ratings could gain greater visibility to institutional capital.

“Bloomberg has been a leader in financial market data for decades, trusted by institutional investors for independent, reliable information,” Allister Furey, chief executive of Sylvera, said, calling the integration a sign of “a new phase of maturity” for carbon markets.

According to Bertrand Le Nézet at Bloomberg, the move reflects rising institutional demand for transparency.

“Sylvera’s rigorous, science-based approach to carbon project assessment aligns with Bloomberg’s commitment to providing Bloomberg Terminal users with the most comprehensive and reliable market data,” he said.

Sylvera, which is ISO certified and backed by investors including Balderton Capital, Index Ventures, Insight Partners, and Salesforce Ventures, provides independent ratings, pricing intelligence, and geospatial data across carbon markets.

The Bloomberg Terminal has been providing real-time financial data and trading tools to market participants for more than four decades.
