Svante Technologies has officially opened the world’s first commercial-scale gigafactory dedicated to manufacturing carbon capture and removal filters.
Located in Burnaby, British Columbia, the new Redwood facility will produce enough solid sorbent-based filters to capture up to 10 million metric tons of CO2 annually — the equivalent of removing over 27 million cars from the road.
The 141,000-square-foot facility marks a major step toward scaling carbon management solutions for hard-to-abate sectors like cement, steel, energy, and waste-to-energy.
Svante’s patented filters, made with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), are designed to capture carbon directly from industrial emissions and the atmosphere.

Backed by $145 million in funding from major investors including Chevron, Samsung, United Airlines Ventures, and Canada Growth Fund, Svante plans to replicate this manufacturing model globally over the next decade.
The company’s technology is already in use at pilot sites such as Chevron’s Kern River facility in California and Lafarge’s Richmond Cement Plant in Canada. Svante also supplies filters for Climeworks’ next-gen direct air capture systems.
With Redwood online, Svante is well-positioned to lead the commercialization of carbon capture at scale and drive progress toward global climate goals.
