Supercritical has signed a new exclusive contract, agreeing to bring to market a new tier of biochar carbon credits generated by Varaha and certified under Isometric’s module, called distributed biochar credits.
As part of this partnership, Supercritical will be the sole market route for Varaha’s newly certified decentralized inventory. The marketplace has secured an initial availability of 10,000 tonnes of carbon removal credits in 2026.
In a recent publication, Supercritical shared, “The biochar category has operated across two production tiers for years. Industrial: rigorous verification, constrained supply. Artisanal: strong co-benefits, but open-pit production methods made enterprise-grade adoption difficult to achieve. There’s now a third tier: distributed biochar.”
With this transaction, the two companies are introducing a formalized commercial asset class for corporate buyers interested in verified carbon dioxide removal (CDR).
This parthership with Varaha also advances Supercritical’s broader supply development strategy, under which the marketplace has already secured a 500,000-tonne agreement with Exomad Green, as well as a 1 million-tonne, 10-year Microsoft offtake with Liferaft ,and GroundUp with Boeing.
Supercritical CEO Michelle You commented, “The biochar category is maturing. For years, buyers chose between two production tiers. Now there are three, and the new one fills a gap the market has needed filled: verified carbon removal with real co-benefits at an accessible price.”
She added, “We have facilitated nearly 2 million tonnes of biochar and put every project through our 118-point vetting protocol. 88% fail. Varaha’s distributed biochar passes. That is why we are backing them with committed capital and exclusive distribution.”
The carbon removal credits for this deal follow Isometric’s Distributed Biochar Module v1.1, a certification framework that requires using enclosed kiln designs and following standardized operating procedures, as well as continuous emissions monitoring with sophisticated technologies.

Varaha follows this structure in its India-based operations, where it processes agricultural residues and a farmland-degrading plant species called “Prosopis juliflora” to create CO2-dense biochar.
Through these activities, the company also provides returning revenue directly to farming communities under FPIC protections. Positioned as the largest CDR project developer in Asia, Varaha has already attracted major buyers, the likes of Microsoft and Google.
