Supercritical has launched a call for premium biochar projects, looking to partner with and support a select group of outstanding initiatives that would deliver offtakes for corporate buyers.
As shared in the announcement, the call is specifically aimed at projects with sustainable and traceable biomass feedstock that use a proven pyrolysis technology for converting the biomass into a biochar product.
Eligible projects should be run by strong teams that have a vision and ambition of scaling operations with a small number of centralized sites.
The initiatives deemed as a fit will receive custom support from the Supercritical team that will cover aspects like project development, contract negotiation, rigorous climate science, and introduction to buyers.
Interested projects can fill in the form and submit their details by October 31, and Supercritical has stressed that the available spots are limited.
Through this effort, Supercritical aims to stimulate the generation of high-integrity and premium-quality biochar carbon removal credits on the market, which have proven to be the most sought-after solution by corporate buyers working on sustainability strategies.
This year, biochar as a carbon dioxide removal solution experienced unprecedented growth, with 1.6 million tonnes of credits contracted by the end of June.
Supercritical has been monitoring this surge, signaling a rapidly growing buyer demand for biochar credits that surpasses the high-quality volumes provided by suppliers.

To date, the booming demand has extended beyond the 2025 schedule and now also includes contracts for credits set to be delivered in 2026.
Supercritical’s call for projects aims to address this gap between biochar demand and supply by backing more providers that can deliver biochar credits in line with the high-quality requirements of potential corporate customers.
According to Supercritical, this call is a chance for suppliers to scale their projects significantly while relying on a suite of dedicated, market-relevant support.
