Summit Carbon Solutions announced that it has already paid landowners around $200 million to build the proposed carbon pipeline on their properties.
The money has already been paid, although the Iowan pipeline operator is still seeking regulatory approval to proceed with the project.
Regardless of whether the project gets the go-ahead from state officials and all landowners along the pipeline route, that money will not be paid back to Summit.
So far, the enticement has helped Summit Carbon Solutions secure easements from landowners for over half the proposed route through five states: Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa and the Dakotas.
