UK-based seismic technology provider, STRYDE has secured a substantial agreement with Danish company Smart Seismic Solutions (S³) to provide 42,000 autonomous nodes to be used for a groundbreaking carbon storage project.

Mike Popham, CEO of STRYDE, commented: “This collaboration highlights how our unique seismic system is revolutionising the industry, enabling the rapid and safe acquisition of the seismic data needed to empower organisations to make more informed decisions, driving meaningful climate action.

Our solution significantly lowers the barriers for onshore carbon storage initiatives, and we are proud to help S³ deliver seismic data needed for this important project.”

The project is set to involve a large-scale 3D high-density seismic survey onshore in Denmark and will support the pioneering CarbonCuts carbon dioxide (CO2) Storage Project, which aims to identify optimal subsurface storage solutions for CO2 sequestration.

The initiative aligns with Denmark’s ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045. By leveraging advanced seismic technology, the project will enable precise mapping of geological formations, ensuring safe and effective onshore CO2 storage. This effort marks a crucial advancement in making carbon sequestration more accessible and cost-effective compared to offshore alternatives.

Smart Seismic Solutions (S³), a leading geophysical service provider, is spearheading the data acquisition process. The company will utilize STRYDE’s state-of-the-art nodal seismic acquisition system to gather a high-density seismic dataset, providing critical insights into the viability of onshore CO2 storage.

Patrick Robert, CEO at S³, stated: “The CarbonCuts Project is a cornerstone in Denmark’s journey toward a greener future, and we are proud to contribute.

The dense deployment of STRYDE nodes provides exceptional clarity of the subsurface, enabling stakeholders to identify geological structures suitable for carbon storage with greater precision. This significantly reduces risks and enhances the reliability of long-term CO2 sequestration solutions.”

With geological CO2 storage now recognized as a proven and secure method to combat climate change, such initiatives are becoming increasingly essential for industries seeking to manage their emissions responsibly.

As carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) projects expand worldwide, monitoring, measuring, and verification (MMV) of sequestration processes remain integral to ensuring environmental compliance and qualifying for tax credits. The CCUS process presents unique challenges, from transportation and injection to long-term storage. However, this latest development underscores the growing commitment of companies to enhance reliability and sustainability in carbon management.

The CarbonCuts Project represents a major milestone in advancing global carbon sequestration strategies, demonstrating how cutting-edge seismic technology can drive impactful climate solutions.
