Sustainable consulting company Stantec has been selected by Removr to provide expertise on the logistics and project delivery for their industrial-scale direct air capture (DAC) facilities.
Norwegian-based Removr is working on deploying DAC plants that capture carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. Currently, they are focused on developing their pilot commercial DAC facilities, set to be constructed in Iceland.
Utilizing repurposed, existing heavy industry processes, the company’s zeolite-based technology is designed to run on renewable energy and has the flexibility to also capture low-concentration emissions at point-source.
This approach enables a carbon removal process without the use of water, conventional fuels, chemicals, critical minerals or toxic materials, while the captured CO2 can be permanently stored underground or used to produce various different products, such as decarbonized concrete, fuels, and more.
Employing this environment-friendly technology, the company’s long term ambition is to become a world leader in industrial-scale DAC carbon removal. By partnering with Stantec, Removr is showcasing their dedication to creating innovative solutions.
Stantec, a global consultant on sustainable engineering, architecture, and environmental solutions, will provide their valuable know-how on Removr’s inaugural project that aims to process billions of cubic feet of air and cost-effectively capture millions of tons of carbon.
As part of the collaboration, Stantec will provide its professional input, specialized in large-scale project logistics and ventilation, site infrastructure, modularization, preassembly and preconstruction for complex projects, as well as renewable energy.

Preparing to work together, the two companies organized a series of workshops in June 2024, where they looked into topics such as site conditions, constructability, safety and risk management, as well as lessons learned from previous projects like this.
Ultimately, by sharing knowledge and best practices, Stantec and Removr hope to contribute to the collective understanding of DAC facilities, including the challenges and solutions linked to this technology.
