SPE To Host Webinar On Carbon Capture Regulatory Approval

SPE To Host Webinar On Carbon Capture Regulatory Approval - Carbon Herald

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) will be hosting a webinar dedicated to the regulatory approval procedures for carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.

The practice of capturing and injecting CO2 for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is by no means new, and has, in fact, been used by the energy industry for half a century.

But in recent years, the interest in injecting carbon dioxide into geological formations for permanent and safe storage has been rapidly increasing.

In order to receive government approval, carbon capture and storage projects are subject to very strict regulatory requirements that aim to protect underground drinking water.

These requirements include the collection of much data, detailed reservoir characterization, and different technical specifications, all of which will be discussed during the webinar on October 4, 2023, at 12:00 PM EDT.

This webinar is a collaboration between SPE, the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC), and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF).
