SLB Capturi has partnered with Aker Solutions to secure an EPCIC ((Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation & Commissioning) contract from Hafslund Celsio.

This agreement involves the design, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning of a comprehensive carbon capture solution for Hafslund Celsio’s waste-to-energy facility in Klemetsrud, Oslo.

Hafslund Celsio, Norway’s largest district heating supplier, operates the nation’s largest waste-to-energy plant. This significant project aligns with the Norwegian Government’s Longship initiative, a full-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) program.

Under the terms of the contract, SLB Capturi and Aker Solutions will deliver a complete carbon capture system.

This includes a state-of-the-art carbon capture plant, a liquefaction system for efficient CO2 handling, temporary storage facilities at the waste incineration site, and a dedicated loading facility for transport.

Furthermore, the project encompasses the development of an intermediate CO2 storage and ship loading system at Oslo harbor.

This strategic location will facilitate the seamless transportation of captured CO2 to the Northern Lights permanent storage facility located on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Upon completion, the carbon capture plant is projected to capture and sequester an impressive 350,000 metric tons of CO2 annually.

The successful award of this EPCIC contract follows a rigorous cost reduction phase undertaken by Hafslund Celsio. This phase involved a comprehensive evaluation of the project, identifying opportunities for enhanced efficiency and optimized layout.

Building upon these insights, the project will now be executed utilizing SLB Capturi’s innovative Just Catch™ 400 unit, a modularized carbon capture solution.

Hafslund Celsio’s project represents the second carbon capture plant within the Longship initiative.

In a previous collaboration with Aker Solutions, SLB Capturi successfully secured a contract to deliver a carbon capture plant at Heidelberg Materials’ cement facility in Brevik.

Egil Fagerland, SLB Capturi CEO, stated: “Standardization and modularization play a key role in shifting the economics of carbon capture projects.”

“We are extremely proud of our collaboration with Hafslund Celsio and Aker Solutions to align our Just Catch plant design with the techno-economic requirements of this project to help make it a reality.”
