Direct air capture (DAC) technology developer Skytree has announced the first commercial deployment of its Skytree Stratus system through a partnership with Dutch energy provider Lingezegen Energy, marking a significant milestone for the company’s transition from technology development to commercial-scale deployment.
The project will provide a fossil-free source of carbon dioxide to a greenhouse cluster in the Netherlands, helping growers secure a reliable supply of CO2 for crop cultivation while reducing dependence on traditional fossil-based sources.
The Skytree Stratus system is expected to capture approximately 7,200 tons of atmospheric CO2 annually, supplying ten greenhouses covering around 80 hectares. The captured CO2 will be integrated into Lingezegen Energy’s renewable energy infrastructure, which includes a floating solar park and thermal energy storage systems.
The initiative addresses a growing challenge facing the Dutch horticulture sector, where greenhouse operators rely on CO2 enrichment to maximize crop yields and quality. As industrial CO2 supplies become increasingly constrained and costly due to broader decarbonization efforts, direct air capture offers an alternative source that can be produced directly at the point of use.
Skytree said the commercial deployment follows more than two years of operational testing and validation of its proprietary moving-bed technology, which separates the adsorption and desorption stages of the capture process to improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
Commercial DAC System Designed For Scalable CO2 Supply
According to the company, the Stratus system can reduce electricity consumption to as low as 0.9 MWh per ton of CO2 when integrated with low-grade heat sources, positioning it as a cost-effective solution for industries requiring a reliable CO2 supply.
The system is designed to utilize heat at temperatures above 80°C for approximately 80% of its thermal energy requirements, reducing overall operational costs while supporting integration with existing renewable energy infrastructure.
Skytree also highlighted the role of proprietary AI-driven process controls that continuously monitor atmospheric conditions to maintain stable CO2 output throughout the year.

The technology is designed to operate across a wide temperature range and maintain production levels with minimal seasonal variation.
The modular architecture of the Stratus platform allows capture capacity to be scaled according to customer requirements.
Individual systems begin at a capacity of 2.5 tons of CO2 per day and can be combined into larger installations, enabling deployment across various sectors.
