Skyrenu Technologies announced that it has delivered the first batch of CO2 captured with its direct air capture (DAC) technology to synthetic fuels and low-carbon chemicals producer Secant Fuel.
This collaboration deepens the work relationship between the two companies, who are both based in Sherbrooke, Canada, and have originated from research performed at the Université de Sherbrooke.
This first captured CO2 delivery is the result of a technology showcase in which Skyrenu demonstrated its modular, low-energy systems for capturing CO2 directly from the air, while Secant Fuel deployed its carbon conversion technology.
Through this successful showcase, the companies bring attention to the utilization potential of captured CO2 as a feedstock for technologies that valorize carbon into sustainable fuels and chemicals.
The showcase was conducted with financial support from Sherbrooke Innovante, which provided the means through its support program for businesses in the industrial and technology sectors, known as the Vitrine technologique stream.
Skyrenu’s DAC technology is specifically designed to capture CO2 emissions in low-concentration environments. This enables it to soak up carbon dioxide directly from the air or to dilute industrial emissions.
The CO2 captured with these modular DAC systems is concentrated and with high purity, which allows it to be repurposed into products or to be sequestered away from the atmosphere.

The company has already deployed and is operating its first unit from this technology at the Deep Sky Alpha facility in Innisfail, Alberta, Canada.
At the same time, its team is working on a larger-capacity system, which is expected to have the ability to capture up to 125 tonnes of CO2 on an annual basis.
How Skyrenu and Secant Fuel see this partnership
Skyrenu co-founder and CEO Gabriel Vézina said that this first CO2 batch delivery to Secant Fuel shows that carbon pulled directly from the air can become the raw material for tomorrow’s fuels and chemicals.
“Bringing two complementary technologies together this way is exactly the kind of collaboration that accelerates the transition to a low-carbon economy,” he added.
On behalf of Secant Fuel, CEO Jochem Kamstra commented, “Collaborations with companies like Skyrenu help us explore how complementary technologies could fit into the broader carbon value chain as we move toward commercial deployment.”
