SkyNRG has secured financial close for its first dedicated sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility, clearing the way for construction to begin at the Delfzijl chemical park in northern Netherlands.
The greenfield project, known as DSL-01, marks a strategic shift for the company from fuel sourcing and distribution into owning and operating large-scale production assets.
Once operational, the plant is expected to supply around 100,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel annually, alongside roughly 35,000 tons of renewable by-products such as biobased propane, butane and naphtha.
Initial lifecycle emissions savings are projected at about 80% compared with conventional jet fuel, with reductions expected to rise above 90% over time as the facility increases electrification and reduces natural gas use.
The project has secured non-recourse project financing, a first for a commercial-scale SAF plant, signaling growing lender confidence in the bankability of sustainable aviation fuels. Construction is now underway, with commissioning targeted for 2028.
From Pilot Volumes to Industrial-Scale SAF
The Delfzijl facility will use the HEFA pathway to convert waste-based feedstocks into jet fuel, supported by processing technology supplied by Topsoe.
The project is anchored by an offtake agreement with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which plans to use the volumes to meet tightening European SAF blending mandates and internal climate targets.
Project delivery will be led by Technip Energies as EPC contractor, while financing brings together a consortium of commercial banks and long-term investors, including Macquarie Group and APG.

The development is also positioned to reinforce the emerging green industrial cluster around Delfzijl, aligning with regional decarbonization strategies.
Beyond the Netherlands, SkyNRG is progressing additional SAF projects in North America and Northern Europe, including initiatives with Boeing and Skellefteå Kraft.
Together, these efforts reflect the industry’s push to move SAF from niche supply toward scalable infrastructure capable of supporting aviation’s longer-term decarbonization pathway.
