The Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX), and Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) have partnered to enhance carbon markets development, governance and sustainability in Africa, Nigerian daily Leadership has reported.
A delegation led by NGX Group Chairman, Alhaji Umaru Kwairanga, and SEC Director General, Dr. Emomotimi Agama, recently visited JSE for strategic discussions aimed at learning from its governance practices and strengthening institutional cooperation.
The visit highlights NGX Group’s focus on global partnerships and alignment with international standards, which supports the growth of capital markets in Nigeria and Africa.
JSE Group CEO, Dr. Leila Fourie, emphasized the increasing relevance of African capital markets on the global stage, noting positive trends in South Africa’s financial sector, such as reduced capital outflows and improved investor confidence.
Kwairanga expressed optimism about the visit’s impact, stating that understanding JSE’s governance, as a demutualized exchange, will influence NGX Group’s decision-making process.
In turn, Agama reinforced the significance of the collaboration, stressing that such initiatives can steer the Nigerian capital market towards greater progress.
