Software company SAP has signed a strategic partnership with Climeworks, embarking on a multifaceted decarbonization cooperation.
As announced by the partnering companies, one segment of their collaboration will see SAP investing multiple millions of dollars in a diverse portfolio of carbon removal solutions by Climeworks.
Under this agreement, Climeworks will provide SAP with 37,000 tons of high-quality carbon removal credits, to be generated through Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, biochar, and Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) by 2034.
SAP opted in for this long-term, diversified carbon removal portfolio following the Corporate Net-Zero Standard issued by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Sophia Mendelsohn, SAP’s Chief Sustainability & Commercial Officer, commented, “Our Climeworks partnership secures high-integrity capacity at preferred rates while protecting against price volatility.”
“This investment also strengthens SAP economically—we can now develop new products that meet evolving customer, partner, and regulatory expectations,” she adds.
Beyond the substantial carbon credits investment, Climeworks and SAP will also work together on delivering CO2 management solutions for corporate clients looking to address their emissions.
The two tech companies will collaborate on creating tools that will enable businesses to seamlessly manage carbon removal portfolios, leveraging the capacities of the SAP Sustainability Control Tower and SAP Store.
These solutions will allow enterprises to measure, manage, and mitigate their CO2 footprint, empowering them to make better-informed decisions on their climate action journey.

Climeworks co-founder and co-CEO Christoph Gebald stated:
“Through this partnership, we are not only advancing carbon removal as a key solution to mitigate climate change-induced business risks but are also embedding it into enterprise technology, making it easily actionable for businesses worldwide. Thereby, companies can build resilience into their operations—turning the shift toward sustainability into an economic opportunity, not a trade-off.”
Climeworks has also boosted its platform with digital solutions developed by SAP, including the S/4HANA Public Cloud through the GROW with SAP program and the SAP LeanIX, and the company highlighted that it intends to expand its use of SAP tools in the future.
