Salesforce recently announced a trio of significant climate initiatives aimed at accelerating a fair and sustainable energy transition, including a $25 million commitment to advancing carbon removal. 

The tech giant has joined forces with Frontier, an advance market commitment (AMC) working towards a collective purchase of over $1 billion in permanent carbon removal solutions by 2030. 

Through this membership, Salesforce pledges $25 million to propel the development, scaling, and commercialization of the most promising carbon removal technologies.

Furthermore, Salesforce has partnered with Qualitas Energy, a leading global platform dedicated to renewable energy investment, management, and development. 

This collaboration involves expanding Salesforce’s renewable energy portfolio through a new 27-megawatt (MW) solar project in Italy.

This marks Salesforce’s first foray into European virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) and reinforces the company’s commitment to achieving 100% reliance on renewable energy.

Salesforce’s commitment extends beyond financial investments. The company has also allocated $3.95 million in unrestricted philanthropic grants to seven organizations actively pursuing advancements in clean energy solutions.

These moves by Salesforce underscore the critical importance of a multifaceted approach to tackling climate change.

While reducing emissions remains vital, the fight demands additional measures like removing existing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and oceans.
