Rubi has raised $7.5 million in new funding and secured more than $60 million in offtake agreements, marking a step forward in the commercialization of its carbon-to-materials technology.

The San Francisco-based company is developing a manufacturing platform that converts carbon dioxide into industrial materials using engineered enzymes. The latest funding round was co-led by AP Ventures and FH One Investments, with participation from investors including H&M Group and Talis Capital.

Rubi said the capital will be used to scale its production system to an industrial demonstration phase, while advancing its enzyme technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

The announcement follows a period of commercial growth for the company. In 2025, Rubi signed multi-year offtake agreements with fashion brands and manufacturers, expanded its number of commercial partnerships, and carried out performance testing of its materials with multiple industry partners. The company has also begun pilot projects in sectors beyond textiles, including consumer goods and aerospace.

Moving from pilot to industrial scale

Rubi’s technology is based on a cell-free enzymatic process that converts CO2 into complex materials such as cellulose-based polymers.

Unlike conventional manufacturing methods, which often rely on fossil-based feedstocks and large-scale infrastructure, the company’s approach is designed to operate in modular systems that can be deployed closer to end users.

According to the company, this model could reduce capital expenditure requirements and enable more flexible, localized production of materials. The platform is also supported by artificial intelligence and machine learning tools aimed at improving enzyme performance and process efficiency over time.

With pilot-scale validation completed, Rubi is now focused on scaling up to produce commercial volumes of material for customers across textiles and consumer product applications.

The company said growing demand for lower-carbon materials, combined with supply chain pressures, is driving interest in alternative production pathways.

Investors described the company as entering a transition phase, with its technology moving from early demonstration toward broader commercial deployment across multiple industries.
