Residual and Puro.earth have announced a strategic partnership aimed at scaling biomass-based carbon removal solutions at San Francisco Climate Week, taking place on April 19-27, 2025.
This collaboration positions Residual as an official Project Development Partner, focusing on biochar and afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation (ARR) initiatives, with Puro.earth providing certification under its rigorous Puro Standard.
Residual, which specializes in transforming biogenic waste into long-lasting climate assets, integrates carbon credit ratings, insurance, and offtake strategies into project planning.
This comprehensive approach ensures that carbon removal efforts are both technically sound and financially viable from day one, according to a company statement on Monday.
Ted Christie-Miller, Co-Founder of Residual, explained that by incorporating risk intelligence and credit ratings into the core of each project, Residual helps unlock stronger pricing and long-term market confidence.

Having advised major carbon credit buyers like Microsoft, Google, and JPMorgan on removal ratings and insurance, Residual brings significant expertise to the table.
Their new focus is delivering the kind of premium carbon credits that high-profile buyers demand.
Trenton Spindler, Chief Growth Officer at Puro.earth, emphasized the synergy between their mission and Residual’s innovative approach to high-integrity carbon removal.
“Together, we’re not just issuing CORCs [CO2 removal certificates]—we’re enabling meaningful, verifiable climate impact,” he said.
The partnership is a call to action for developers working on biomass-based carbon removal projects such as biochar, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), and ARR to seek support for project design, certification, and long-term offtake strategy.
