Residual Appoints Former Puro.earth Executive As VP Of Finance - Carbon Herald

Carbon asset developer Residual has appointed Julien Jacob as Vice President (VP) of Finance, strengthening its project finance and carbon offtake capabilities as the company expands its carbon removal portfolio.

Based in New York, Residual said Jacob will oversee project finance and offtake strategy across its growing pipeline of eight carbon removal projects.

Jacob joins Residual from carbon crediting platform Puro.earth, where he spent four years as Head of Offtakes & Investments. During his time there, he worked on building relationships and transaction structures connecting carbon dioxide removal (CDR) project developers with investors and buyers.

Focus on Scaling Financeable CDR Projects

Before entering the carbon market, Jacob worked for eight years in structured commodity finance across investment banking and capital advisory firms.

According to Residual, his role will focus on ensuring projects are structured to attract financing from the earliest stages of development while aligning projects with appropriate sources of capital as they scale.

“There’s a real gap between investors with fresh CDR mandates and projects ready to receive that capital,” said Jacob. “Residual is building large-scale projects, anchored to industrial and land-owning partners, and designed from day one for the markets they serve. That’s the setup this moment calls for,” he added.

Residual said the appointment comes as investor interest in carbon removal continues to increase, alongside growing demand for large-scale, financeable projects.

Co-Founder Ted Christie-Miller described the hire as an important step for the company’s next stage of growth. “Julien sat in the middle of many of the major carbon removal deals over the last four years and brings critical experience to take Residual to the next level,” he said.

The company is developing a portfolio of carbon removal projects aimed at supplying long-term carbon credits to the voluntary carbon market.
