Renu Earth, Inc., a leader in biochar-based carbon removal solutions, is thrilled to announce the start of its first project in collaboration with a major sawmill in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Together with Carbonfuture GmbH, an expert in digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (dMRV) solutions, Renu Earth will convert sustainable wood residues as feedstock from the sawmill into biochar, generating certified carbon removal credits through Puro.Earth.
These credits will be tracked with CF’s advanced dMRV system, ensuring accuracy and transparency in carbon credit issuance. Carbonfuture has committed to purchasing the initial 1,000 CO2 Removal Certificates (CORCS) from this project and will broker a total volume of up to 102,000 CORCS yearly.
Key Highlights of the Project and Partnership:
- Strong Market Entry: Our first pilot project, in partnership with a major sawmill, is forecast to reach break-even within 20 months, including full capex repayment, through the significant contribution from the CORC sales.
- Scalable, Field-Tested Technology: Our equipment, designed specifically for biochar production, is proven for scalability, supporting Renu Earth’s ambitious growth goals in
carbon removal. - Experienced Engineering Team: With over 15 years of experience, our engineering team brings extensive expertise to project execution and development.
- Proven Leadership: Renu Earth’s founders are recognized for their successful track record in the Voluntary Carbon Market, reinforcing the company’s credibility and market
presence. - Cost-Efficient Production: Our production costs are significantly below industry standards, providing a competitive edge in the carbon credit market.
- Abundant Feedstock: We have access to virtually unlimited sustainable feedstock from the sawmill, ensuring long-term project viability and scalability.
- Biochar for Fertilizer Manufacturing: Beyond carbon credits, we are engaging in sales of physical biochar to fertilizer manufacturers, creating value-added opportunities for biochar utilization.
- Community Impact: This project offers significant economic and environmental benefits to local communities and farmers, supporting sustainable agriculture and soil health.
- Future Expansion: With a projected annual carbon removal capacity of 200,000 CORCS by 2027 across 10 additional sawmill sites, this project represents a scalable
solution for carbon removal. - Strategic Partnerships: Renu Earth has signed NDAs with a global automotive group and a leading Brazilian bank, exploring potential joint ventures that could extend our impact and broaden our carbon removal initiatives.
“Our partnership with Carbonfuture marks a significant milestone as we bring this transformative project to life in South Africa,” said Tim de Rosen, CEO of Renu Earth. “By leveraging Carbonfuture’s robust dMRV system, we are able to provide reliable, high-integrity carbon credits while supporting sustainable development within local communities.”
“Carbonfuture is excited to partner with Renu Earth in this groundbreaking project,” added Hannes Junginger Gestrich, CEO at Carbonfuture. “Our aim is to facilitate the removal of gigatonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere with a focus on integrity and scale. By bringing together Carbonfuture MRV+ with the scalability of Renu Earth’s approach, we can ensure the highest standard of transparency while moving toward a more sustainable future.”
