The remove accelerator program has announced a new pre-purchase agreement with London-headquartered biochar machine producer and enabling platform Exothermite.
Under the pre-purchase contract, Exothermite will deliver permanent biochar carbon dioxide removal (CDR) from waste biomass.
The startup leverages a proprietary universal biochar machine and enabling services platform to produce biochar from a wide range of waste biomass feedstocks, including rice husks, coconut petioles, and wood chips.
Besides creating premium-quality biochar, these operations also generate carbon removal credits and renewable energy, along with a number of co-products. This agreement brings to a close remove’s 2026 series of pre-purchase agreements, which included deals signed with Climitra, Ground Up, and Carbonway.
The pre-purchase agreements series is part of remove’s accelerator program, divided in two stages called Foundations and Leap. For the participants that advance to the Leap phase of the program, remove offers over $17,000 (€15,000) in a purchase agreement intended to support startups as they demonstrate real commercial traction and gain visibility for their CDR work.

Founded in 2025, Exothermite is on a mission of bridging the gap between systematic, industrial biochar quality and artisanal biochar’s impact.
To that end, the company has created what is stated to be an ultra-low cost, rigorously auditable hardware that minimizes barriers to premium Biomass Carbon Removal and Storage (BiCRS) projects.
Its reach currently spans projects across the UK and EU, as well as in Asia and North America. “We’re pioneering a distributed and industrial biochar model, with the goal of making premium BiCRS the default decision for any waste biomass, anywhere,” the company said in a statement.
Exothermite is making biochar strides
Exothermite’s ultra-low-cost approach is one of the factors that attracted remove to this deal. This optimization enables 80% cheaper system building with a significantly quicker deployment time than comparable biochar plants, which, in turn, lowers the barrier for waste biomass handlers to start a project.
Additionally, remove recognized the rigorous auditability of Exothermite’s hardware, which enables even smaller and more distributed projects to meet premium credit standards.
With this pre-purchase announcement, remove wraps up its buying activity for 2026, with more announcements potentially to come next year.
