Remove has announced Cohort 8 of its Europe CDR Startup Accelerator Program, welcoming new promising solutions to the Foundations stage of this initiative.
Following a three-month-long open call that is said to have attracted numerous high-quality proposals, remove has now selected 16 CDR startups to join its accelerator program.
As part of Cohort 8, the group of startups will gain access to valuable assets for their growth journey ahead, including training and 1-on-1 coaching, networking with relevant ecosystem stakeholders, non-dilutive funding, and more.
The 16 startups joining the Foundations stage of the Europe CDR Accelerator Program are carbondrop™, Pure Hawa, reilo, Restord, BioBright, ReStore Carbon, Alpine X, fortyfour, Reaforma, Circular Carbon Pathways, Carbony, CO₂Zero, Carbonway, KORALL, Exothermite, and Lightnet Carbon Capture.
Aiming to support high-potential solutions across the whole carbon dioxide removal (CDR) spectrum, Cohort 8 includes climate innovations that leverage different technologies and approaches.
In that regard, four of the selected startups are focused on tackling atmospheric CO2 through biochar-based projects. These startups include Pure Hawa, Restord, Exothermite, and Circular Carbon Pathways.
Startups centered around engineered CDR technologies include AlpineX, which utilizes high-altitude conditions to sequester atmospheric CO2, as well as DAC-oriented companies fourtyfour, CO₂Zero, Korall, and DAC and CCUS company Lightnet Carbon Capture.
On the nature-based CDR front, the startups to join the accelerator are Carbony, enhanced rock weathering company Carbondrop, forest protection and restoration firm Relio, algae carbon removal visionary BioBright, and peat rehabilitation company ReStore Carbon.

Last but not least, Carbonway joins Cohort 8 with its mineralization-driven method for sequestering carbon in construction materials, while Reaforma becomes part of the Accelerator Program with its solution for creating sustainable building materials from waste.
The Accelerator program will unfold in two stages, called Foundations and Leap.
The companies that reach the Leap phase will be eligible for up to ~$17,600 (15,000 EUR) in non-dilutive funding, where remove may ask for this recoverable grant back if the startup begins performing well on its own, and the recovered grant will serve to support the next cohort of CDR startups.
