remove has unveiled the names of 8 pioneering startups focused on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) that have been chosen for the second stage of Cohort 6 in its accelerator program.
These startups were selected from a highly competitive batch of 20 participants in the Foundations phase, remove said in a LinkedIn post last week.
The companies that are continuing in the race are Calcin8 Technologies and HyveGeo from the UK, Yama from the U.S., RECOAL AG from Switzerland, PyroCCS – Biochar CDR Solutions and ecoLocked from Germany, Limenet from Italy, and Exocarbon.
Calcin8 and Yama specialize in direct air capture (DAC), RECOAL AG transforms waste biomass into negative-emission coal, and PyroCCS offers low-cost biochar technology for countries in the Global South.
ecoLocked produces carbon-negative building material additives, while HyveGeo uses microalgae to turn waste into scalable solutions for carbon removal and sustainable agriculture.
Limenet has developed an innovative technology for storing carbon dioxide (CO2) in the form of calcium bicarbonates in seawater, and Exocarbon recovers CO2 gas from organic wastes for permanent carbon removal.

Over the next five months, these startups will receive intensive support as part of Phase 2: Leap.
The second phase will address key areas crucial to the success of CDR initiatives and entrepreneurship, including policy insights, life cycle assessment, fundraising strategies, and intellectual property management, remove said.
The organizers expressed their excitement and commitment to providing the 8 selected startups with the resources and guidance needed to tackle their unique challenges.
They also acknowledged the efforts of all 20 startups that participated in the Foundations phase and emphasized their intention to maintain connections with all participants.
