ReCarber, a Swedish company simplifying the value chain for carbon removal projects while pushing the expansion of Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) technology in the Nordics, has secured $5.3 million (SEK 60M) in its initial funding round.
The company managed to lock in this vital investment in a funding round led by Luminar Ventures, Spintop Ventures, and Course Corrected.
Acknowledging the important role of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) solutions in meeting climate targets by mid-century, ReCarbon backs the development of technology-based decarbonization systems that contribute towards Sweden’s environmental strategy.
With a founding team and an expanded board in place, ReCarber will use this financial boost to focus on scaling high-quality BECCS projects across the Nordic countries and beyond.
Established in 2024, the company is driven by the mission of developing a cluster of high-integrity CO2 removal projects big enough to contribute towards global net-zero targets.
The Nordic countries are stated to have the capacity to permanently remove up to 60 million tonnes of biogenic carbon dioxide annually.
Leveraging this advantage, Stockholm-based ReCarber partners with combined heat and power plants in the Nordic region, using biomass to produce energy and district heating, equipped with technology that captures the emitted CO2 emissions in the process, that then get permanently stored underground.
By resulting in negative CO2 emissions, these operations enable ReCarber to issue carbon credits for purchasing.

The company has also developed a novel digital platform that commercializes carbon removal projects, matching CDR suppliers with buyers and navigating the financing process.
This software product streamlines the value chain, unlocking an accelerated, cost-effective project deployment pace, offering a promising pathway for scaling CDR solutions.
With these tools at hand, coupled with a senior team that carries expertise from some of the largest realized carbon capture and storage (CCS) and BECCS projects and the newly acquired financial injection, ReCarber is well positioned to successfully introduce new carbon removal projects to the market.
