The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) has approved the Rainbow carbon crediting program as CCP-Eligible, marking the ninth program to meet the body’s benchmark for high-integrity voluntary carbon markets.
The approval applies to version 7 or later of Rainbow’s standard rules, which introduced strengthened governance, verification, and transparency requirements designed to align with the Core Carbon Principles framework.
Rainbow (formerly known as Riverse) updated its rules to reinforce oversight structures, tighten accreditation and performance requirements for validation and verification bodies, and improve methodological standards covering additionality, baselines, uncertainty, and crediting periods.
The revised framework also introduces stronger safeguards around permanence, buffer pools, and stakeholder engagement, while expanding registry transparency and controls against double counting.
Strengthening integrity in voluntary carbon markets
CCP-Eligible status confirms that a program meets strict criteria for governance, transparency, and third-party verification, alongside rules ensuring robust quantification of emissions reductions or removals and safeguards for sustainable development benefits.
Headquartered in France, Rainbow currently manages more than 80 registered projects spanning carbon removal and circular economy solutions, including biochar, enhanced rock weathering, biomass carbon storage, and biogas generation.
With the program now deemed CCP-Eligible, individual methodologies under the Rainbow standard can proceed through the next stage of ICVCM’s assessment process.

Only credits issued under approved methodologies and the updated standard will qualify for the CCP label, a mark increasingly viewed as a key indicator of credibility in voluntary carbon markets.
Ludovic Chatoux, Co-founder & CEO of Rainbow, stated: “We’re proud to receive ICVCM approval. The recognition validates our vision: that high-integrity carbon markets require scientific rigour, field engineering expertise, and operational excellence.
“For the partners who work with Rainbow, this approval confirms what we’ve built together: a standard that meets the market’s highest integrity threshold benchmarks. Frameworks like ICVCM are essential for building market credibility at scale.”
