Puro.earth has introduced а CRCF program, designed to certify eligible carbon credits under the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming (CRCF) Regulation released by the European Commission.

Following an introductory webinar held by the EU Commission on June 1st, Puro.earth implemented final guidance from the Commission, shaping its CRCF program in alignment with it and applying to be recognized as a certification scheme under the CRCF Regulation.

Once the program is approved, it will enable engineered carbon dioxide removal (CDR) suppliers to issue CRCF credits and buyers to procure them through Puro.earth’s existing infrastructure.

This move marks a key step in Puro.earth’s evolution into a multi-program standard and registry. As such, the Puro platform will now operate three programs in parallel: the Puro Standard (issuing CORCs), the CRCF Program (issuing CRCF Certified Units), and the CCS+ Program (issuing CCS+ credits).

The announcement clarifies that the Puro Standard will continue to operate with its established global reach, and the CRCF Program is EU-focused, consistent with the scope of the CRCF regulation.

“As CDR scales and becomes more widely adopted in Europe, buyers and suppliers need flexibility: the ability to operate across programs and jurisdictions without having to manage multiple platforms and relationships,” said Puro.earth President Jan-Willem Bode.

He added, “This is why we are becoming multi-program in our approach, and the Puro.earth CRCF Program gives our market access to that optionality in a way that is practical and straightforward.”

Puro.earth’s CRCF Program is relevant for EU-based project developers working on biogenic emissions capture with carbon storage (bioCCS), direct air capture with carbon storage (DACCS), and biochar carbon removal—the three currently approved methodologies under the Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/285.

Additionally, the program is also open to international companies with emissions in Europe, for whom CRCF-certified, locally sourced credits are the most direct and credible way to address those emissions.

CRCF methodologies are developed and adopted by the European Commission and are then scrutinized by the EU Parliament and Council. When its program is recognized, Puro.earth’s role will be to operationalize them, providing the certification infrastructure, registry system interface, and the supplier and buyer support through which CRCF methodologies can be applied in practice.
