The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) has cleared Puro.earth as the latest program to meet its Core Carbon Principles, granting the Finland-based registry CCP-Eligible status for the first time. The approval applies solely to Puro.earth’s most recent rulebook, version 4.2.
Becoming CCP-Eligible signals that a crediting program has satisfied the ICVCM’s requirements for governance, transparency, tracking systems, and independent third-party verification.
It also confirms compliance with standards intended to prevent double counting, ensure accurate emissions accounting, and incorporate sustainable development safeguards.

Puro.earth, which operates exclusively in the carbon removal sector, brings a portfolio focused on biochar, carbonated materials, and geological storage—methodologies the ICVCM has yet to evaluate.
With the eligibility decision now in place, those methods can be assessed under the ICVCM’s two-stage process.
Only credits issued under CCP-approved methodologies and compliant with Puro.earth’s 4.2 standard or later editions will be able to carry the CCP label.
Jan-Willem Bode, Puro.earth’s president, said the approval “validates the foundation we’ve built: a standard grounded in science and transparency, and infrastructure designed for scale.”
Annette Nazareth, chair of ICVCM, said the registry joins a growing set of programs adopting the Core Carbon Principles as the benchmark for high-quality credits.
The Integrity Council’s review followed a non-CORSIA pathway because Puro.earth’s earlier 4.0 rules were deemed only partially consistent by the aviation sector scheme when the company applied in March 2024.
Version 4.2 includes reinforced provisions to meet the ICVCM’s criteria. Among the upgrades are stronger stakeholder engagement requirements, expanded project documentation rules, improved registry procedures, and broader safeguards addressing labor rights, gender equity, biodiversity, and protections for Indigenous peoples and local communities.
Puro.earth becomes the eighth registry to receive CCP-Eligible status. Across all programs and methodologies reviewed to date, the Integrity Council estimates that 101 million carbon credits qualify for the CCP label, with about 52 million currently available for purchase.
