Last week the carbon-removal platform Puro.earth announced it has integrated the methodology framework from the CCS+ Initiative into its own certification and issuance system, marking a strategic milestone for large-scale carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects.
Using the combined framework, suppliers can now issue Puro CO2-Removal Certificates (CORCs) based on CCS+ methodologies—covering Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) and Direct Air Capture with Carbon Capture and Storage (DACCS).
For suppliers, this means increased flexibility: they can register and manage projects either under the original Puro Standard or under the CCS+ Initiative’s BECCS and DACCS tracks via Puro’s upgraded MyPuro 2.0 platform, while avoiding duplication or double-counting.

According to Puro’s president Jan-Willem Bode: “Through this integration … suppliers can use a single platform that supports certification under both Puro Standard CORCs or CCS+ Initiative methodology framework, while buyers gain simplicity and confidence at the point of purchase.”
Pascal Siegwart, co-founder and chairman of the CCS+ Initiative, added: “One of CCS+ Initiative’s core missions is to reduce market fragmentation by delivering clear, interoperable MRV protocols for CCS carbon accounting, raising the bar on integrity so market participants can trust what a tonne removed really means.”
The unified platform will create a single-governed credentialing path, giving buyers access to an investment-grade registry platform for certified removal credits. Puro.earth said the move preserves the same validation and verification rigour its users have come to rely on, but now adds broader methodology choice and scale potential.
The timing aligns with growing demand from corporate and compliance buyers seeking credible removal credits that align with emerging frameworks like the EU’s Carbon Removal Certification Framework (CRCF) and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
