Helsinki-based carbon removal platform Puro.earth has secured €11 million ($12.8 million) in fresh funding, in a Series B round led by Nasdaq with additional backing from Fortum Innovation & Venturing.
The financing is aimed at bolstering the company’s infrastructure and expanding its ability to certify and support suppliers of engineered carbon removal.
“Carbon removal is evolving from innovation to infrastructure,” said Jan-Willem Bode, President of Puro.earth. “This is what our ecosystem of buyers and suppliers demands— Nasdaq and Puro.earth are well-placed to meet this need by combining financial infrastructure and climate expertise to foster innovation and accelerate the carbon market growth.”
Nasdaq funds to facilitate market integrity
The new capital will be directed toward improving the issuance of high-quality carbon removal credits, streamlining offtake agreements, and integrating advanced digital monitoring and verification tools.
These initiatives are intended to give buyers greater confidence in the durability and integrity of carbon removal projects at a time when corporate demand for reliable credits is climbing.

The investment follows a period of rapid development for Puro.earth. The company has recently refined its biochar methodology, rolled out an API to simplify trading of credits, and established partnerships to channel financing into carbon removal ventures.
Nasdaq, which acquired a majority stake in Puro.earth in 2021, is leveraging its market expertise to help build the infrastructure for a scalable, transparent carbon market.
Since launching the world’s first standard for engineered carbon removal in 2019, Puro.earth has issued over one million CO2 Removal Certificates, making it the leading registry for scientifically validated projects.
Puro.earth firing on all cylinders
The Finnish organization has been working hard on multiple fronts and has acted as a stabilizing factor for many of the carbon removal industry’s branches.
In April Frontier Climate, one of the key buyers and enablers in the CDR industry, designated Puro as a leading credit issuer, while also holding its first Asia-Pacific summit, identifying the region as a one with high growth potential.
2025 has also seen a leadership change with Jan-Willem Bode stepping in as President. The instrumental figures of Antti Vihavainen and Marianne Tikkanen maintain key roles and continue to be driving forces behind its success.
