PNZ Group, a rapidly expanding collective of net zero-focused businesses, has acquired sustainability consultancy Arete Zero Carbon in a move that strengthens its position as a full-service partner for organizations pursuing climate goals.
This marks PNZ Group’s third acquisition and significantly bolsters its ability to support clients across the entire net zero journey — from emissions strategy to clean energy deployment and carbon credit access.
Arete Zero Carbon, originally backed by Liverpool-based Arete Capital Partners, has built a reputation for helping businesses across the UK measure and reduce emissions throughout their operations and supply chains.
Under the guidance of carbon reduction specialist Dr Stephen Finnegan, the firm has supported organizations in meeting regulatory requirements, improving supply chain resilience, and enhancing long-term sustainability and commercial outcomes.
The consultancy’s diverse client base spans sectors such as technology (HP, TD Synnex, Westcoast), construction (Knauf, Grosvenor), government and non-profits (DESNZ, Keep Britain Tidy), legal services, and major consumer brands like KFC and Princes Foods.
Rebranded as PNZ Advisory, the firm now joins PNZ Carbon and PNZ Energy under the PNZ Group umbrella. Headquartered in Warrington, the group offers strategic advice, clean energy solutions, and carbon credit services to help organizations make meaningful progress on decarbonization.

With more than 50 specialists across its divisions, PNZ Group plans further expansion over the next year to meet increasing demand for integrated net zero solutions.
Martin Smith, CEO at PNZ Group, stated: “Bringing Arete Zero Carbon into the PNZ Group fills a critical gap in our proposition. Businesses need more than just technology or offsets – they need expert, strategic guidance to build and deliver credible decarbonisation plans.”
“We now offer clients a complete solution that spans advice, action, and accountability. This is a major milestone in our mission to be the UK’s go-to net zero partner,” Smith said.
